Construction sites often represent some of the most dangerous work locations a person can be in. construction workers face several dangers at just about every turn. Because of that, accidents occur frequently and many times people are severely injured on the job. When a person is hurt in a construction accident then he or she may be eligible for compensation for their injuries, pain and suffering. In addition, if someone is killed then his or her family members might be eligible to receive damages.
A Michigan man was killed in a construction accident after a gravel pile apparently collapsed and pulled him under some heavy machinery recently. According to reports, the 65-year-old man was standing on a part of the front-end loader that he had been working with when the big pile of gravel collapsed and slid down on top of him. The pile knocked him off the front-end loader and then buried him underneath the vehicle. Several of his co-workers did attempt to pull the man from underneath the vehicle and loose gravel, but unfortunately he died at the scene.
According to reports, the man had only worked with the construction company for a couple of months. Because the accident took place at a sand and gravel pit it has been classified as a mine accident. Therefore, the Mine Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident. There were no indications as to what may have caused the incident or if any safety regulations were violated. In addition it is not known if the man had been properly trained for the job he was performing. Meantime, the construction company for whom he was working has one previous complaint filed with OSHA regarding trenching activity or road construction.
This is obviously a tragic accident that might have been avoidable. While it is still not known if any violations were committed, the family of this man might want to consider all possibilities going forward. Construction accidents are very common and many times they are even fatal. Not all construction accidents are caused because of negligence but when they are, then the victim’s family members might want to speak with a personal injury attorney to discuss filing a wrongful death suit.
