There are all kinds of criminal offenses that people in Flint can be charged with. Of course, some criminal charges are much more serious than others and some have much tougher consequences than others. However, some of the worst types of criminal charges a person can face are for sexual crimes. Sex crimes, no matter if a person is convicted or acquitted, can damage someone’s reputation permanently. These types of crimes carry a very negative stigma, especially when they involve offenses against minors, and that stigma can last a lifetime. If you have been charged with a sex crime you need to aggressively stand up for your rights.

An elementary school teacher from Troy is facing serious charges after he was arrested for sex crimes with some of his students. According to reports, the 44-year-old teacher is accused of having inappropriate contact with two of his female students from the school where he taught in Novi. He has been charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct and if convicted he could face up to 15 years behind bars. Authorities say they arrested the teacher after investigating the alleged incidents for two months, including interviewing the alleged victims.

According to reports, investigators in Troy, where the man lives, are also looking into possible allegations against the man. The teacher is now on administrative leave, but school authorities have described him as a “popular and very good teacher.” He was free on bond at the time of this report and was scheduled to appear in court in early August. District officials are letting the legal process play out before they make any final decisions on the man’s employment status.

While these circumstances do not look good for this man it’s important to remember that he is still innocent until proven guilty; and it should not be assumed that he did what he is accused of doing. Sex crimes are serious, but many people who are accused of committing sex crimes are actually innocent. Anyone in this situation should not wait to contact an experienced criminal defense attorney to fight for his or her rights. It’s important to start building a strong defense strategy right away if you have been charged with any kind of sex crime.
